It was fantastic to today be at the unveiling of the Vision for Broad Marsh. Nottingham’s independent Greater Broad Marsh Advisory Group, established by Nottingham City Council in March 2021, has today published its Vision and recommendations for one of the most significant City Centre development sites in the UK and the “once in many generations” opportunity for Nottingham to lead the way in city centre regeneration following the impacts of Covid-19 and online retailing. 

Laurence Henry, the well-known Nottingham chef and former MasterChef winner, has been named chef patron at Canal Turn – the stunning new restaurant and entertainment space currently on site at The Island Quarter.

If you aren’t aware, East Midlands Airport is home to the UK’s largest dedicated cargo operation and the UK’s number one airport for express freight. It is an effective driver for other activity in the immediate area such as the SEGRO Logistics Park which is a 700 acre development with occupiers such as Amazon taking full advantage of our central position in the very heart of the country.

The Broadmarsh has been one of the most contentious topics in Nottingham for decades. But the conversation has moved from Slab Square across the Atlantic to Times Square, with the New York Times covering the story of what the site could become.

For much of the last decade, I’ve spent my morning commutes walking through Nottingham city centre, looking at the multiple sites earmarked for development and hoping things would come forward, only to get frustrated at the lack of progress. Having now spent the last 11 months commuting between rooms in my house, so much has happened that I think I might struggle to recognise my city when I return!
