Geldards sets new standard for agile client delivery with move into Nottingham city centre

Leading national law firm Geldards will set a new standard for office destinations as it moves into Nottingham city centre to support its ambitions for business growth and client delivery.

The firm’s 90-strong Nottingham team is moving into a bespoke space at the Cubo Work offices next to Royal Standard Place – a landmark building at the heart of the city’s business quarter overlooking Nottingham Castle.

The move marks the next step in Geldards’ strategy of using new technologies and new ways of working to deliver an increasingly agile and responsive service for a client base that includes high-profile organisations across business, public and charitable sectors, alongside private client work.

It is also being seen as a significant vote of confidence in Nottingham’s status as a hub for high-quality professional services in the East Midlands.

Geldards’ decision to move into the city centre follows a year of strong performance where revenue has enjoyed double-digit growth, and significant new hires have come on board, among them new Partners Neil Walker and Jay Atubra, strengthening the firm’s market-leading property and networks teams respectively.

David Williams, Geldards’ Chairman and Head of the Nottingham office said: “The way we deliver for our clients has been changing significantly over the past few years and that evolution towards a more agile and responsive service has been accelerated by the pandemic.

“We’ve looked carefully at the best ways for our people to deliver for clients and colleagues, and the conclusion is clear: provide our teams with the tools to deliver wherever they are, supported by a destination that reflects both Geldards’ status and our willingness to do things differently.

“We have been working with Cubo for the past few months to develop a purpose-built space that sets a new standard and supports our future ambitions, and we’re all excited about the fact that it brings Geldards into the city centre. Our business is defined by its talent and expertise, and we believe this move will help us continue to attract the best people as we grow.”

The new offices at Standard Court – which include a rotunda looking out across the city – place Geldards at the heart of Nottingham’s business quarter and close to a range of professional services the firm frequently collaborates with. It is also next to the University of Law, a critical stakeholder and important source of legal talent for the future.

Natalie Haydon-Yeung, the latest Partner promotion in Geldards’ family law team, said: “How we provide legal advice and support our clients has changed drastically. We’re using tools and systems now which mean we can offer the very best expertise in an agile and responsive way – wherever we are, whenever people need us.

“It’s exciting to see that Geldards is not only committed to developing the best talent and expertise, but is also willing to do things differently and invest in a fresh, modern working environment.”

Geldards’ move into the city centre has also been welcomed by Marketing Nottingham, which supports the growth of new and existing businesses through its inward investment team and helped Geldards with its relocation.

Lorraine Baggs, its Head of Inward Investment, said: “Geldards’ move into the city centre confirms Nottingham’s status as a leading commercial destination in the East Midlands, and clearly demonstrates the presence of the kind of high-quality professional services that growing businesses and major organisations require.

“It’s exciting, too, to see Geldards take a very forward-looking approach to its new workplace, one that shows that while office requirements are evolving, a prominent presence in a major city will continue to be important. They are one of a number of businesses that we have supported in moving to flexible office space.”

The move away from the traditional office environment is detailed in a recent report by McKinsey* which spells out how technological change and the shift to hybrid working is transforming office spaces, professional working practices and city communities, enabling more agile service delivery and a more attractive work-life balance for people.

Danette Richards, Head of Operations at Cubo Work, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome a prestigious professional services firm like Geldards to the community at Cubo Standard Court, which is one of nine Cubo sites across the UK.

“We’re committed to providing the very best space in the best locations, and to taking an innovative approach to the experience we offer. There is a real shortage of high-quality office space in Nottingham, and we’ve worked closely with Geldards to ensure that the space we’ve developed for them not only meet their needs but help their teams set a new standard.”

Geldards also has a major office presence at Pride Park in Derby, and will be announcing plans to evolve and enhance its presence in the city in the Spring.
