With over 1.1 million people living in Nottingham’s recruitment area, high quality labour market and competitive costs the area is able to satisfy most recruitment demand now and in the future.

Nottingham's diverse workforce comes as a result of its wide range of business sectors present in the area. 59% of jobs in Nottingham Core City Area are in Knowledge Intensive Industries compared to the national average of 52.9% The city and county have strengths in Low Carbon Technologies, Added-value Manufacturing, Financial Services, Creative Industries and Biotechnology amongst others.

Nottingham is home to two leading universities which have over 58,000 people studying there and with a large overseas student population. Nottingham also has several excellent further education colleges which offer a wide range of practical vocational courses and apprenticeships. These colleges are active with local employers and can provide bespoke training for staff.

Nottingham has a large pool of skilled workers. Well over a third of a million residents hold an NVQ at Level 3 or above, equivalent to 47% of the working age group. Over half of these (54 %) possess Level 4 NVQ’s, similar to a degree.
