Spotlight on Southside at MIPIM

10 February 2010

Nottingham's new business district, Southside, will be thrust into the spotlight at the world's biggest property investment show, le marche international des professionnels de l'immobilier (MIPIM) in Cannes next month, as 'Team Nottingham' aims to demonstrate that the City is the best place for investors to put their money.

One of the biggest available spaces in the city, Southside is an impressive 1,070,000 sq ft new business district that brings together major schemes in the area that are currently under development or in planning stages. Nottingham organisations from the public and private sector will come together at MIPIM to promote the combined Southside district and win interest from investors visiting the show.

Director of Workplace Strategy and Property for Nottingham City Council, Geoffrey Hibbert commented: 'The Southside district is already connecting businesses with clients and a new workforce with the vibrant heart of the City and the potential to build on that success is key to the MIPIM message. Nottingham is a Science City with two hugely popular and successful universities. Its ability to successfully deliver projects, to capture economic growth and to support innovation, underpins the City's confidence and ambition for the business district on the Southside.

Stuart Senior, Managing Partner of Gleeds Nottingham, the international construction management consultancy added: 'We are delighted to have played a role in undertaking the master planning and feasibility study for the railway Station and are very keen to be involved in showcasing the benefits of our region to developers on the global stage. We have attended MIPIM since it first began and it is a very important showcase when it comes to reaching the most influential investors in the world and with Southside we have something worth shouting about.'

Mixed use schemes in the new Southside commercial area include Wilson Bowden's Sentinel, a 100,000 sq ft office scheme on the district's southern edge. Peel Holdings' Unity Square development will see 200,000 sq ft of Grade A offices, a hotel and retail/leisure space being built opposite The Hub, the redeveloped train station and new NET Tram interchange.

Other schemes helping to create this new office core in the heart of the city include Bildurn's plan to create a 200,000 sq ft mixed use scheme on Station Street, Reef Construction's 45,000 sq ft Southreef Phase II scheme and Lace Market Properties' 55,000 sq ft Meadows Gateway development.

Existing occupiers of the new Southside business district include Nottingham City Council, Capital One, Shoosmiths Solicitors, HM Revenue and Customs, and leading gaming company Crytek.
