Wollaton Hall has been commended in a top building conservation award.
19 October 2009 The Grade I listed Elizabethan mansion, in Wollaton Park, was commended in the Building Conservation Award 2009 category at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) International Awards.Wollaton Hall was recognised by the awards for its £9m repair and conservation project.
Earlier this year it won the RICS East Midlands Project of the Year Award and the regional RICS East Midlands Building Conservation Award.
The project involved restoration work to the hall and outbuildings and installation of a lift to improve accessibility for the public.
The category was won by St Paul's Cathedral.
Wollaton Hall is owned by Nottingham City Council.
Coun David Trimble, portfolio holder for culture, leisure and customers, said: "The hall is one of the jewels in Nottingham's crown. The project required some detailed and intricate restoration work."
