BROADWAY NOMINATED IN TOTAL FILM'S WORLD'S BEST CINEMA AWARD
5 February 2009 Broadway Media Centre in Nottingham has been nominated as the world's best cinema by the industry experts at Total Film Magazine. No overall winner of 'best cinema' is to be announced but Broadway has been recognised as one of only ten cinemas in the world that provides a unique cinema going experience, alongside prestigious contenders such as the La Pagode, Paris and Mann's Chinese Theatre, Los Angeles. Broadway has earned the nomination for the Paul Smith-designed cinema auditoria Screen 4. Described by Total Film magazine as "the smartest cinema in the world" it is high praise indeed for a creative collaboration between Nottingham's well known designer and independent cinema, and testament to Nottingham's growing reputation for innovative creative design.
A £5.7million development of Broadway was completed in October 2006 equipping Broadway with two new cinema screens, a new bar, offices for media and film companies, and a glazed facade that displays commissioned work by digital artists. In the last year Broadway has been short listed for the Lord Mayor's Urban Design Award and the Paul Smith Screen 4 has been nominated in the Elle Decoration British Design Awards in the category of Fashion Contribution to Interiors. The nominations are of great importance to Broadway in encouraging the public to use the cinema and in highlighting the high quality of cultural facilities Nottingham has to offer.
