Case Study
Good Products Ltd
In regulated industries, compliant document management and staff training is critical. This is where local entrepreneur, Keith Williams, spotted an opportunity. In 2006, Keith, established Good Products in Nottingham to address a growing need in the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology and Life Sciences sector to improve business efficiency, and comply with regulatory and legal pressures through an Electronic Document Management System (eDMS). Keith has over 18 years of Biopharmaceutical consultancy experience, particularly in computer systems validation, and computerised systems training in manufacturing, clinical and laboratory environments.
Starting the business
Keith Williams completed his BSc degree in Genetics and Microbiology and an MSc in Biochemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham and has been working within the biopharmaceutical sector since 1989. During this time he has been involved with engineering design, project management, commissioning, validation, strategic planning and high-level consultancy.
Good Products started life in BioCity Nottingham; now one of Europe's largest centres for fledgling companies working in bioscience innovation. Due to rapid expansion, Good Products, together with sister companies GxP Consulting and Net Experts, flew the BioCity nest in February 2009 to move to larger premises in the City.
When asked how Good Products has benefited from being in Nottingham, Keith commented that 'being in Nottingham has been successful for us because we have been able to recruit a high calibre of staff from the university and beyond. Nottingham has also been very cost-effective, which means our overheads are very manageable. We also benefit from being in a pretty central position in the UK, with both the M1 and East Midlands Airport on the doorstep'.
Achievements
Within the space of just two years, Good Products has become a global leader in the area of document management and has advised on a number of regulatory issues, including the now mandatory adoption of the eCTD for regulatory submissions. During 2008, Good Products launched its Clinical Technology Consulting division, designed to enable biopharmaceutical sponsors and CROs to optimise their use of clinical technology. As a result of its success the company marked its expansion into North America with the opening a US headquarters in Irvine, California in 2008. In 2009, Good Products is also planning to open an East Coast office in New Jersey.
